WHAT TO EXPECT

Trail Running 101 Program

1. Welcome and Introduction (10 minutes)  Introduction of participants and instructors.

Brief overview of the session's goals and activities.

Safety briefing and trail etiquette.

2. Basics of Trail Running (20 minutes)

Explanation of proper trail running technique.

Importance of maintaining a steady pace and conserving energy.

Tips for navigating different types of terrain (uphill, downhill, rocky paths).

3. Equipment Check and Hydration (10 minutes)

Quick check of running gear: shoes, hydration packs, and snacks.

Importance of staying hydrated and when to take breaks.

4. Warm-Up and Stretching (15 minutes)

5. Trail Run Practice (60 minutes)

  • Group trail run incorporating different terrains.
  • Emphasis on maintaining form and pacing.
  • Periodic stops for hydration and feedback.
  • Uphill running techniques and strategies.
  • Downhill running techniques and strategies.
  • Navigating obstacles and technical terrain.

7. Cool-Down and Stretching (15 minutes)

Reminders

Please make sure you are physically fit for the activities.  If you are not feeling well before or during the activity, please advise the team so you can be assisted.

Check the Weather: Ensure you’re dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Gear Up: Proper trail running shoes, breathable clothing, and a hat for sun protection.

Hydrate: Drink water regularly before, during, and after the run.

Bring Essentials: Water bottle, energy gels/snacks, whistle, sunscreen, and a small first aid kit.

During the Group Run

  • Stay on the Trail: Follow marked paths to protect the environment and stay safe.
  • Pace Yourself: Listen to your body and run at a comfortable pace.
  • Buddy System: Partner up to look out for each other.
  • Respect Wildlife: Observe from a distance and don’t disturb animals or plants.
  • Leave No Trace: Carry out all trash and leave the trail as you found it.


About the Speaker

Manolito "Tolitz" Divina is a veteran trail runner.  He is a multi-decorated trail runner  and was active in the sports from 2013 until 2019.  With multiple podium finishes, in the Philippines and overseas including being crowned the Asia Trail Master Champion in 2016, Tolitz brings in a wealth of experience in the sports.  He shifted focus in Obstacle Sports and became part of the POSF National team in 2019 and was part of the team which brought home the gold in SEA Games 2019.  From being an active athlete competitor, Tolitz has focused on Coaching both in OCR and running.  Though not active, Tolitz' heart is still on the trails and he is back to share it with everyone.  Trail Na! The Arden Botanical Trails are part of the Arden Botanical Estate, a sustainable township located in Trece Martires, Cavite, Philippines. The estate is designed to highlight the importance of sustainability, featuring flower farms, gardens, and unique living experiences. The trails are popular among mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts, offering scenic routes and a chance to connect with nature.
